A 6-year-old boy was injured Saturday afternoon when he was attacked by a dog in northwest Charlotte, officials said.
Officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the boy was playing outside around 4:30 p.m. on Anastasia Court when a dog broke loose from its collar while being walked and attacked the child.
Authorities said a neighbor shot and killed the dog to stop the attack.
CMPD officials said the boy was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover.
Officials said Animal Care and Control have identified the owner of the dog and citations will be issued. The dog had no previous history, officials said, and its body will be taken to a shelter and tested for rabies.
