Witnesses told Channel 9 that the woman was crossing South Tryon when the car hit her and kept going.
“The car was like flying,” said Allah Jasper. “It was at least going like 70 miles per hour, like it hit her. It didn't even stop. It just kept on going.”
Authorities are looking for an older model burgundy 4-door sedan, possibly a Honda Civic, last seen headed north on South Tryon Street near Interstate 485.
Investigators said the car should have noticeable front end damage to the headlights and possibly the windshield.
