CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton kicked off his third annual charity weekend, literally, with a game of kickball.

The NFL star hosted his 'Kicking It With Cam' celebrity kickball tournament Friday at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Elizabeth.

Eighteen teams composed of past and present Panthers players, celebrity athletes, entertainers and community leaders faced off against one another to help raise money for the Cam Newton Foundation. Big sports names such as Terrell Owens and Jameis Winston took part in the kickball tournament.

There was another familiar face on the kickball field, former Carolina Panthers player Josh Norman.

"Giving back to kids you know it's important that they feel our heart," Norman said.

Players took time to sign autographs for kids and Newtown showcased some of his usual goofiness when a child asked him why he puts on the event.

"Me and kids have a lot in common." Newton said. "Our caring matter is about the same, the things we like to eat are about the same, our mental focus is about the same."

The Cam Newton Foundation benefits local children in the areas of education, physical fitness and wellness.
