CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Firefighters in Catawba County are investigating what started a fire near Claremont that destroyed a home and several cars.
Crews said the blaze was at a home on Old Catawba Road shortly after midnight Wednesday morning.
Firefighters said when they arrived, the flames had already burned through the roof.

Firefighters said the homeowner made it out safely. He told them his phone wasn’t working so he had to drive to the police department to get help.
Five different fire departments in eastern Catawba County worked to bring that fire under control.
