Police find silver Range Rover belonging to accused north Charlotte shooter

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are looking for the suspect who shot a man to death Sunday afternoon at the Tanglewood Apartments in north Charlotte.

Emergency responders found Lucas Baldwin, 34, dead when they arrived just before 4 p.m. at the apartments on Wynbrook Way.

Charles Moore, Baldwin's uncle, spoke to Channel 9 at the scene.

“People always think it couldn't happen, but it can happen,” Moore said. “I just wish we could put down the guns.”

Police are searching for William Vandale Medlin, 42, who is accused of the murder.

Medlin's silver Range Rover has been recovered by investigators. Medlin is still on the run and considered to be armed and dangerous.

The homicide was the fifth in Charlotte in less than 10 days and the 37th of 2017.

“To hear this, I don't even know what I'm feeling right now,” Moore said.

Police said Baldwin knew the person who shot him and was killed after a dispute.

Channel 9 learned that several neighbors witnessed the shooting, including young children.

“It's just a typical day,” said neighbor James Knott. “Unfortunately, a shooting went down. I'm not going to let that define our neighborhood. When something like this happens, it takes away from the neighborhood because the neighborhood is built around the kids.”

With another family hurting and a loved one gone, detectives are left to piece together the crime.

Police said they have a good idea who the shooter is.

“I'm sure there's another way to settle differences without taking someone's life,” Moore said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide detective.
