Precautions in place after threat made at Ardrey Kell High School

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — There is an investigation underway at Ardrey Kell High School after graffiti containing a threatening message for students and staff was found in the school.

Principal David Switzer said the school is working with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools police and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to investigate the threat.

Students started calling and texting their parents Tuesday and posting to social media about a note they said was found in a bathroom on campus, which read "School shooting. February 17th, 2017. Don't come to school."

One mother said that when her child alerted her to the threat, they were scared.

“My child was distraught, as I was,” the mother said. “And I wanted to make sure that it was turned in to the administration and that it was being addressed.”

The principal sent a message to parents saying that the threat is being taken seriously and that precautions are being put in place to make sure the school runs safely and smoothly.

The message asks parents to talk to their children to see if they can provide any more information about the graffiti.

The message also says that school will proceed normally on Friday.
