North Carolina man reels in massive 112-pound catfish

WILMINGTON, N.C. — A Wilmington man nearly netted a new state record after reeling in a 112-pound catfish in the Cape Fear River.

Riahn Brewington said he knew he had something big on the line the moment he hooked the fish. He didn’t think he'd be able to land it using just a small rod and reel, but after fighting for 30 minutes, he managed to grab it.

"I didn't realize how big he was until I actually got my hands underneath him," Brewington said.

The state record for a catfish is 117 pounds.

Brewington did not want to give away his spot, but said he caught the catfish in the northeast part of the Cape Fear River.

Brewington said he released the monster back into the river after taking a quick photo with it.
