Manchester attack makes local owners think security of own venue

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Traci Ford’s restaurant Factory Café has only been open for six weeks, but she’s already noticed the heightened security for large events.

Hearing about the brutal attack that killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, made her think about what could happen at the Music Factory in uptown Charlotte.

"It was just shocking to me that someone would actually do that, I hear with ages 8-and-up. “It's really sad,” Ford said. “Private security, as well as Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, they are always out here.”

A spokesperson for the Music Factory said “Live Nation” coordinates private security for all events.

He said they take bag checking and pat downs seriously.

A security expert said the attack in England may prompt extra security and more thorough bag checks in the United States.

The Spectrum Center couldn't say whether that would happen in Charlotte.

A spokesperson said each visitor goes through a metal detector and baggage check.

Ford said any layer of security helps.

"It makes myself and the customers feel comfortable,” Ford said.
