CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police SWAT officers entered a standoff Sunday morning in northeast Charlotte when a man refused to leave his apartment after a shooting.
Officers responded just before 6:30 a.m. to the 400 block of Lambeth Drive after a report of an assault.
Police found a woman with a gunshot wound and later found a man, identified as the suspect inside a nearby apartment.
After a standoff with SWAT officers and negotiators, the man surrendered and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Police said he appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
MEDIC took the woman with non-life-threatening injuries to CMC.
Police believe the two knew each other.
