DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Charlotte native and University of North Carolina basketball star Luke Maye was involved in a crash on Interstate 85 Thursday near Lexington where his car flipped several times.
Maye’s mom Aimée Maye told Channel 9 that he walked away from the crash and is fine.
Aimée Maye said Luke was coming home from his brother Drake Maye’s eighth-grade graduation when the crash happened.
She said he was changing lanes too close to a tractor-trailer near Exit 94 and spun off the road into an embankment. Luke Maye’s car flipped several times.
His mother said he crawled out of his Ford Expedition, which was flipped on its roof, and walked away fine.
Luke Maye hit the game-winning shot against Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament, sending the Tar Heels to the Final Four. They went on to win the national championship.
Luke Maye is a rising junior at UNC and was a former walk-on with the team. He played high school basketball at Hough High School.
