SALISBURY, N.C. — Frustration on the Livingstone College campus is running over.

School officials say they were forced to turn off the hot water in The School of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts, also home to a campus hotel housing dozens of students.

Livingstone officials cited safety concerns, after discovering a gas leak in the pipe that controls the hot water.

"It should be noted that staff members also live at the hotel and are experiencing the same inconveniences as the students," said Dr. State W. Alexander, III, vice president for communications and public relations.

"We will have the gas company inspect the pipe to ensure the leak has been properly addressed before having the gas turned back on."

Into the evening Wednesday, freshman Daryl Miller was still without hot water.

Miller is among more than 100 students, relocated to the hotel, after school officials closed down freshman dorm Dancy Hall in January, also citing safety concerns.

"All I had to let me know the dorm was shut down was a note on the door," Miller said.

School officials said they closed the dorm because of a broken water pipe that could also impact the electricity.  When asked Wednesday, officials would not confirm when the dormitory would reopen to students.

"We pay over $25K a year to go to a school like this," Miller said.

"That's more than enough to go to a nice school.  If you look around, the money isn't going where it needs to be."
