They had an entrepreneurial spirit and opened a small business, but they never imagined it would lead them to cross paths with the United Blood Nation.
The Londons owned Mattress Warehouse on South Boulevard and, in May 2014, the store was robbed.
Prosecutors played Doug London’s police interview following the holdup.
He told investigators it had been a slow day when two men walked in. One of them was Jamell Cureton, who is now serving life in prison for the Londons' murders. The other robber was allegedly Nana Adoma, who is on trial this week.
“I say, ‘Guys, how are you doing?’” London told investigators.
"’Give me all your money,’ and (Cureton) sticks a gun right in my face,” London said.
London gave them a bank deposit bag and pretended to fiddle with one of the drawers.
"I didn't want to look at him because I was afraid he might shoot me," London said.
London pulled out his .44 Magnum and shot Cureton. The gang leader returned fire and missed.
Cureton and Adoma were later caught at a hospital.
