Investigators charge two managers from Hendrick Chrysler

CONCORD, N.C. — DMV investigators charged two managers at Hendrick Chrysler in Concord.

Agents told the court they were investigating possible notary fraud in an "ongoing felony investigation."

They said that while they were working on the investigation, the dealership's manager, Stephen Watkins, asked "several employees to fix multiple deals in order to cover a possible fraud. Agents were able to intercept the employees from carrying out the orders."

They said Watkins admitted trying to "conceal possible violations."  They arrested him and charged him with resisting a public officer.

Agents also charged another manager, Samuel Pierce. According to arrest warrants, he faces 14 misdemeanor charges tied to the dealership, including:

• Improper use of temporary dealer permit/tag
• Failure to deliver title
• Motor vehicles at non-established salesroom
• Failure to maintain records
• False advertising (for allegedly claiming a 2017 Jeep came with a specific warranty when it did not)

Agents said Pierce turned himself into the Cabarrus County magistrate.

A Hendrick Automotive Group spokesperson emailed Action 9 saying, "Mr. Watkins and Mr. Pierce respectfully decline the opportunity for on-camera interviews at this time."
