The Charlotte Hornets acquired former NBA All-Star center Dwight Howard in a trade, the Charlotte Hornets announced.
The Hornets will send Miles Plumlee, Marco Belinelli and the 41st pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft to the Atlanta Hawks for Howard.
Charlotte also gets the 31st pick from Atlanta.
Howard averaged 13.5 points and 12.7 rebounds in his only season with the Hawks this past season.
He had signed a three-year $70.5 million deal with Atlanta last offseason.
The former No. 1 overall draft pick by the Orlando Magic averages 17.5 points, 12.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game during his 13-year NBA career.
Howard, 31, provides the Hornets with a dominant inside presence.
He is an eight-time NBA all-star, three-time defensive player of the year and five-time rebounding leader.
The Hornets lose Belinelli, who netted 10.5 points per game this past season and made 36 percent of his 3-pointers.
Plumlee put up 2.5 points per game.
The Hornets now have a front court that includes Howard, Cody Zeller, Frank Kaminsky, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Marvin Williams.
They have the 11th overall pick in Thursday’s draft.
The Hornets posted a 36-46 record last season.
