Former high school softball coach charged with indecent liberties with child released from jail

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators said a former softball coach at Mount Pleasant High School in Cabarrus County was charged with indecent liberties with a child.

Robert Enloe, 50, was arrested on Wednesday.

Police said Enloe was released from jail overnight Friday after being charged with indecent liberties with a child.

Enloe is expected to face a judge in court next month.

Investigators said the accuser was a student, and the sex offenses occurred between 1994 and 1995.

People in the tight-knit community were disgusted and disappointed about the allegations.

“It hurts my heart,” resident Marshall Martin said.

Authorities said they received the allegations on April 11 of this year. After an investigation, detectives said they developed probable cause to charge Enloe with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Enloe is being held in the Cabarrus County Detention Center under a $100 thousand bond.

A Cabarrus County Schools spokesperson said Enloe resigned from the district on June 8.

"I wouldn’t even know what to think, like, I would flip out," former student Katie Wells said.

A spokesperson for Union County Public Schools also confirmed Enloe was an employee but hasn't worked at the district since Dec. 2017. His last position was a PE teacher and coach at Sun Valley High School.

"I just want to see justice be done, and I hope the victim gets the healing they need and the validation," parent Eileen Tessier said.

Detectives have not said if the incidents happened on or off school grounds.

No further details have been released.
