Former fire chief accused of embezzling $3K from Cabarrus Co. department

CONCORD, N.C. — The former fire chief of Allen Volunteer Fire Department faces embezzlement charges after being accused of using department funds for his personal use, Channel 9's partner, the Independent Tribune, reported.

Court documents show Jimmy Morgan, who was also a Concord firefighter, used the volunteer department's credit card to purchase more than $3,000 worth of personal items.

Investigators said he bought parts for his truck, camping gear, a laptop and other items.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office arrested Morgan on Aug. 26 on 10 counts of felony embezzlement, officials said.

The sheriff's office started investigating Morgan on Aug. 5 after they received a tip that said he had used the department's credit card since 2014 for his own personal gain.

The city of Concord put Morgan on leave without pay on Aug. 26 and fired him on Sept. 12. Randy Dozier replaced him as chief.

Officials released Morgan on a $3,000 secured bond. His next court date is Dec. 12.
