LOWELL, N.C. — Gaston County firefighters battled an intense fire at an abandoned house in Lowell early Thursday morning.
Crews were dispatched to the home around 4 a.m. on Lowell Road and Oakland Drive and reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the structure.
Officials said nobody lived at the home and that no one was injured.
Investigators believe the fire started in the dining room and back porch area of the home before the flames spread to the roof.
The Fire Marshal was headed to the scene to investigate further.
Lowell Road was closed to allow fire crews to fight the flames.
