CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A fire broke out on a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school bus as it was taking students home Thursday afternoon in Plaza Midwood.
CMS said smoke was detected on the bus while on Nassau Boulevard, near The Plaza. Sixteen students from EE Waddell Language Academy were on board the bus and were safely removed.

A replacement bus was called in to pick up the students and take them to their dropoff locations.
The parents of the students were notified about the bus fire.
There’s an investigation into what caused the fire.
