CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A passenger was killed when a woman suspected of driving while impaired rear-ended a tractor-trailer Monday night, police said.
Maegan McTaggart, 31, was driving a 2001 Honda Accord at about 9:15 p.m. on North Tryon Street when she made a quick lane change and hit a tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer has just started moving through the intersection of North Tryon Street and J.M. Keynes Boulevard when the wreck happened.
The front passenger was taken to CMC-University where he or she later died. The passenger has not yet been identified.
McTaggart, who was taken to CMC-Main after the crash, has been charged with driving while impaired, police said. She may face further charges when she is released, according to officials.
Officials are still investigating to see if speed and seat belt usage were factors in the crash.
Any person who witnessed the crash or has information about the case is asked to call CMPD at 704-432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
