CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is in the hospital after police said he lost control of his SUV, ran through a fence, flipped and landed in the backyard of a home in northwest Charlotte.
The wreck happened just before midnight at a home on Swearngan Road, not far from the Brookshire Freeway.
The homeowner shared video of the crashed SUV with Channel 9, which showed a heavily damaged vehicle.
Police think the driver never stopped when he came to a T-intersection and lost control, driving through several backyards before finally crashing.
Neighbors told Channel 9 they rushed to see if the driver was OK, and said he was bleeding from the nose and wasn't very responsive.
The homeowner said he had just returned home from visiting family, and recalled hearing boom after boom as the SUV hit several fences.
“They actually came flying over the fence, they flew over that fence and crashed like some Fast and Furious stuff,” said Jarquale Stewart.
The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, and officers are still trying to figure out why he lost control.
Neighbors said alcohol bottles were inside the SUV but police have not yet said if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Channel 9 checked and found that a car crashed at the same house in March 2011.
In that crash, the driver plowed through the fence and right into the home. No one was hurt.
