CHARLOTTE — Police arrested a suspected gunman who they said shot a man numerous times in east Charlotte Sunday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. on Mendham Drive.
Responding officers said they found Jerry Hawthorne shot several times outside an apartment complex.

One neighbor told Channel 9 that Hawthorne was shot six times.
He was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Monday morning, investigators told Channel 9 they had arrested Jarel Williams and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon as well as possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.
He was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail.
