VAN HORN, Tx — Two cyclists from Charlotte were on a fundraising mission when they were killed in a deadly crash in Texas.
Janiva Willis was a former Winthrop University student athlete. She was killed along with Jeffrey Turner.
The two were biking across the country to raise awareness about youth mentoring and attended GeneratiONE Church in NoDa.
Turner was driving just outside of Van Horn, Texas, when he made a left hand turn from the right-hand lane, police said.
Investigators said he cut in front of a tractor-trailer before the collision.
Authorities don't believe Willis was wearing a seat belt.
