CONNELLY SPRINGS, N.C. — Firefighters from two counties worked for hours Sunday morning to control a massive fire at a lumber company near Connelly Springs.
The fire broke out at WM Cramer Lumber Company on Tex’s Fish Camp Road, officials said.
Channel 9 reporter Dave Faherty arrived at the scene around 7:30 a.m. and saw dozens of firefighters from Catawba and Burke counties trucking in water and working to put out the blaze.
Employees of the lumber company said the flames had broken through the roof of warehouse 7 by the time firefighters arrived, which is where some of the more expensive wood such as cherry and walnut is stored.
“This is hard. This depresses me. This is my job, man,” employee William Phillips said.
“It’s a family-owned company. It’s gonna be hard to take it,” neighbor Ian Bowman said.
Crews kept the fire from spreading to several nearby buildings, officials said.
Officials have not said what caused the fire. No injuries were reported.
