OAK ISLAND, N.C. — The Coast Guard is searching for two fishermen from Gaston County after they didn’t return from their fishing trip on Sunday near Oak Island.
Steve Chaney and David Hambrick left in a 22-foot fishing boat around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
The wife of one of the men called for help after the two did not return by dark.
The rough weather on Monday made the search difficult, but crews hoped the clearer weather on Monday would help the search.
Air Station Elizabeth City aircrews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and an HC-130 Hercules airplane, along with Station Oak Island boat crews, are searching the North Carolina coastline for Chaney and Hambrick.
Family and friends are also taking part in the search efforts.
