BOONE, N.C. — The body of a man was identified the day after it was discovered Wednesday afternoon in a creek on Boone Heights Drive, Boone police said.
Police say someone conducting research was walking near the Watauga County Recreation Center in Boone and called 911 after spotting a body in the water.

Detectives identified the deceased as Christopher Lee Strickland, 35.
Police don’t believe the body had been in the water for a long time.
There are no suspects and there is no evidence that there was any criminal activity involved.
The cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
