A Lanesboro correctional inmate faces new charges after authorities said he tried to kill the prison's superintendent.
The State Bureau of Investigations charged Thomas Accardi with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Investigators said on Friday Accardi stabbed David Mitchell multiple times in the neck and back with a plastic homemade shank.
Mitchell has since returned to work.
Accardi was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and was currently serving a 14-year sentence.
