LEE COUNTY, N.C. — State troopers are investigating after they said someone riding an ATV was killed early Friday morning after crashing into a deputy’s cruiser in Lee County, near Sanford.
Officials said Deputy Manual Torres was conducting a security check on a church and as he was pulling out of the parking lot onto East Forest Oaks Drive, he collided with the ATV.
The driver of the ATV was identified as 31-year-old Shelton McLean.
Officials said McLean's ATV was straddling the center yellow lines, and that Torres was driving in the correct lane.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.
