CHARLOTTE, N.C. — On Thursday morning, 12 more early voting sites will open across Mecklenburg County.
Thousands of people have already cast their vote since early voting began a week ago.

Turnout has been brisk at the other sites that opened last week. So far, more than 87,000 people have voted in Mecklenburg County -- that includes more than 8,000 absentee ballots.

On average, more than 11,000 people are voting in person every day.
Democrats typically have a better early voting turnout and that is currently holding true.
Channel 9 found that in North Carolina, 47 percent of early voting ballots cast have been from democrats, compared to just 29 percent of Republicans.
Another interesting fact Channel 9 learned was that turnout among African-Americans, a crucial voting block for Hillary Clinton, is down compared to the same point in 2012.
Strategists in both parties attribute that, in part, to the lower number of early voting sites for the first week, which could change once the additional 12 sites open Thursday.
