CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The driver of a car involved in a serious crash that hurt four others Sunday morning in Ballantyne has died.

Police said Mario Fusco died from injuries he sustained in the crash Monday afternoon.
They were called to the two car crash around 2 a.m. Sunday on Johnston Road at Ballantyne Crossing Avenue.
Investigators said a Hyundai Equus driven by Fusco was speeding when it rear-ended a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Kelly Hildreth. The Trailblazer ran off the road into the grass median, hit a tree and rolled over on its roof, according to police.The Hyundai also ran off the road and hit a tree.
Police originally said Fusco had died. But they said that information was incorrect, and that Fusco was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition. The four people in the other car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Investigators said both speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
